Thom Steinhoff:
I really wanted to try to make some sense on what was going on to Thomas. He seems confused, panicked and bewildered, so I thought, what if he was constantly, say every 40 seconds or so, bouncing between parallel universes and he was the only one who realized it?
The shoot was very fun (we have 5 minutes of hysterical bloopers) but getting there was another story entirely. I live in Los Angeles, California. L.A. traffic is horrendous, especially on Fridays. Veronica and Andrew came up from Laguna Beach especially for the shoot. Of course, they procrastinated until they left at 2:00pm—the worst time imaginable. We were shooting in Valencia where I could borrow the ‘66 mini-cooper. We all converged at 5:00pm (yes they were in traffic for 3 hours), then scrambled for locations, struggled with a borrowed camera and a constant flow of people wanting to look at the car. We had a hard finish of 7:00pm because Veronica, my daughter, had graduated high school the day before and we had reservations for a big family dinner that I couldn’t reschedule.
With so much chaos and time constraint, I didn’t get enough footage, give enough thought to sound or lighting, but I am really proud of how well the kids did, and everyone had a lot of fun.
I hope people like where it is going!
Regarding Chapter 4: I really wanted to have vince run around the corner on the phone (in fact he did—I played Vince).
I just didn’t have the necessary close-ups to show who he was and allow me to compress the time to make it fit. I came in just under 40 seconds as it was and my Vince footage put me over 45—so I ended up on the cutting room floor!
